Visualizing My Discord Network
Visualizing My Discord Network
I love data. There is something incredibly satisfying about taking raw, messy information and turning it into something you can actually see and understand. Recently, I’ve been interested by social dynamics. Specifically, how the various pockets of my life on Discord overlap. I wanted to see the web of my digital life, so I decided to build a tool to make it happen.
I’ve just finished a project called the Discord Relationship Visualizer. It’s a Python toolkit designed to map out a personal social graph. By fetching profile data, mutual friends, and shared servers, the tool identifies the hidden threads connecting different friend groups and renders them into a network graph.
The process involves a few steps: gathering the data, caching server icons and avatars, and finally using a visualization script to generate the map. Seeing my different friend groups cluster together in the final output was exactly the kind of insight I was looking for.
